Interview with Marie Biabo, Reading Teacher, Cora L. Rice Elementary School

Marie Biabo, Reading Teacher, Cora L. Rice Elementary School: “My ultimate goal is to teach, inspire, motivate, and empower all young minds I come across.”

My name is Marie Biabo. I was born in Cameroon and moved to the United States 20 years ago. I am a mom and a wife. I love home decoration, sewing, cooking and most importantly, spending time with my family.

I attended Prince George’s Community College and later, transferred to Bowie State University where I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

My desire to become a teacher started when I was in 8th grade. I had an amazing teacher who inspired me. I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children.

Seeing my kindergarten and first grade students read and write proficiently at the end of each year has always inspired me to continue the journey I have embarked on as an educator.

I learned about FedChoice Foundation’s TAP grants from a coworker at my job and decided to apply right away.I hope that other teachers will take advantage of this amazing opportunity!

My message to other teachers is to be a reflective and a culturally responsive practitioner. Being in the educational system for almost eight years now, my dream is to own a consulting business that will empower young children to build their reading and writing competence. My ultimate goal is to teach, inspire, motivate, and empower all young minds I come across.
